đ¨ Creating a custom painting
Overviewâ
On 1.21.5+, custom paintings are built from two parts. Paintings themselves register from 1.21.3+, but the painting_variant item component needs 1.21.5+.
- a custom painting entry in
paintings.yml - a custom item with the
painting_variantcomponent
Oraxen then generates the painting datapack automatically from the painting entry, and the item can be placed on a wall as a custom painting.
Tutorialâ
Open paintings.ymlâ
Go to plugins/Oraxen/paintings.yml.
đ plugins

Add the paintingâ
Create a new painting entry.
paintings:
oraxen:edna:
author: the_jan_craft
title: <red>Edna Painting
asset_id: oraxen:edna # This will reference plugins/Oraxen/pack/assets/oraxen/textures/painting/edna.png
width: 1
height: 1
include_in_random: false
Place the texture file in plugins/Oraxen/pack/assets/oraxen/textures/painting/edna.png.
Make sure your texture file uses power-of-2 dimensions, such as 16x16, 32x32, 64x64, or 128x128.
Create the painting itemâ
Now add an item that uses the painting key through the painting_variant component.
edna_painting:
material: PAINTING
itemname: "<gold>Edna Painting"
components:
painting_variant: "oraxen:edna"
painting_variant must point to the same painting key from paintings.yml, with the oraxen: namespace.
Reload and testâ
Save both files, then run /oraxen reload paintings to re-register the painting.
If you changed the item file too, run /oraxen reload items (or /oraxen reload all) so the item is updated.
Regenerate and resend the resource pack if you added or changed the painting texture.
Paintings are hot-reloadable, so you do not have to restart your server. You may need to rejoin for some painting changes to apply due to Minecraft limitations.
You can now place the painting item on a wall and your custom texture will be shown.
